What’s The Difference Between AirPods 1 and 2?

As an iPhone owner, I have been looking into getting a pair of Bluetooth headphones. 

Since Apple made it difficult to use traditional headphones with the newer iPhones, I looked into the AirPods that are made by Apple.

I wanted to get the best earbuds possible, so I did a lot of research, and this is what I found during my research.

What is the difference between AirPods 1 and 2?

The main difference between the AirPods generations is that AirPods 2 have significantly longer support for talking time.  The AirPods 2 also have improved audio and voice quality among a few other improvements over the first generation of Airpods. 

But those are amongst the other differences that will be discussed in the rest of the article.

Do AirPods 1 and 2 have the same case?

The standard case that comes with the AirPods 1 is the same as the standard case that comes with the AirPods 2. 

Since both cases are the same, the case can support either generation of AirPods.

The AirPods 2 offer a wireless charging case, which is not offered for the AirPods 1. 

The wireless charging case can be charged by placing the case on a charging mat. 

This can make charging your case much more convenient, which will also make charging your AirPods more convenient.

Are AirPods 1 and 2 the same size?

Yes, the AirPods 1 and 2 are the same size.

Apple made the two generations of the AirPods to be the exact same dimensions and weight. 

This allows for the two generations of AirPods to be interchangeable when it comes to charging cases.

Are the AirPods 2 waterproof?

No, the AirPods 2 are not waterproof. 

However, the AirPods 2 are water-resistant. When the second generation of AirPods was created there was a water-repellant coating added to its circuit board. 

This allows for the AirPods to be exposed to small amounts of water.

While the AirPods 2 are water-resistant, they should not be submerged completely in water.

This could lead to damage, which would render the earbuds useless.

If your AirPods 2 do end up getting wet, then you should do your best to wipe them off and let them air dry before their next use.

What is the price difference between AirPods 1 and 2?

The AirPods 1 and AirPods 2 are priced the same as when they were both first released. 

However, this is only for the standard versions of the AirPods. 

The AirPods 2 come with a wireless charging case, which increases the price of the AirPods 2 for consumers.

The standard version of the AirPods costs $159, but the wireless charging case increases the price of the AirPods 2 to $199.

Currently, the two generations of AirPods do not cost the same.

Since the AirPods 2 have been upgraded from the original AirPods, the original AirPods no longer cost the original $159. 

The first generation of AirPods can be found for as low as $80.

Do AirPods 2 have a noise cancellation feature?

No, the AirPods 2 do not have a noise cancellation feature. 

Unfortunately, this generation of the AirPods does not include this feature, but the earbuds do provide some form of noise cancellation by being in your ear.

The AirPods that do have the noise cancellation feature are the AirPods Pro.

This feature allows for an increased listening experience due to no outside noise.

Can AirPods 2 charge wirelessly?

Yes, AirPods 2 can charge wirelessly. However, it depends on the case that you have for your AirPods 2.

If you have a wireless charging case, then the case will charge wirelessly.

Also, your AirPods 2 will charge whenever they are in the case if your case has a charge.

If you have the standard case, then you will not be able to charge the case wirelessly.

AirPods 1 and AirPods 2 are interchangeable when it comes to charging them in the case. 

If you have the AirPods 1, then you can put them in the wireless case, and they will still charge.

What is the lifespan of AirPods?

The average lifespan of AirPods 1 and AirPods 2 is about two years.

This means that you are actively using them every day, which could cause the battery to degrade. 

Once the battery degrades enough it renders the AirPods almost useless due to how short their battery life is.

The battery will naturally degrade due to use, which will cause the length of the charge and battery life to shorten over time. 

However, if you do not use them every single day, then your AirPods may be able to last more than two years.

Can AirPods connect to Androids?

Yes, your AirPods can connect to Android phones. 

AirPods are Bluetooth earbuds, which allows them to connect to any device that has Bluetooth capabilities.

You can connect them to your Android phone by going into your settings and clicking on the Bluetooth feature. 

Once you are in your Bluetooth settings, then you can tap the white button that is on your AirPods case.

This should allow for them to be recognized by your Android, and when your Android recognizes them, then you can connect them.

While your AirPods are able to connect with the AirPods, they work best with iPhones. 

This is because the company that makes iPhones also makes AirPods, which allows for each device to work optimally.

How long is the battery life of AirPods?

The battery life of AirPods varies depending on what feature you are using.

If you are using your AirPods for just listening, then you can get up to five hours of listening time on one charge.

If you are using them for just talking, then you can get up to three hours of talking time on one charge.

If you are using them to both talk and listen, then you can expect one charge to last in between three and five hours.

How long does it take AirPods to charge?

It takes AirPods between 20 and 30 minutes to reach a full charge. 

If you were to charge your AirPods for roughly 15 minutes, then you could potentially get up to a 50% charge. 

The case takes slightly longer to charge. 

The AirPods case takes about an hour to reach a full charge, which allows you to charge your AirPods three to four times to a full charge.

Closing Thoughts

Through my research, I have found that the AirPods 1 and AirPods 2 have quite a few differences, but Apple has also made them quite similar. 

The look and size of the two generations of AirPods are quite similar, which allows them to charge much easier.

However, the sound and audio quality of the AirPods 2 have been upgraded from the AirPods 1, which can provide a much better listening experience. 

Overall, if the price was not an issue, then I would recommend the AirPods 2 regardless of the device you are using them on. 

If you are worried about the price, then you will get what you paid for with the AirPods 2, but the AirPods 1 are much cheaper than the AirPods 2.
