Can You Use a Bluetooth Headset With a Landline Phone?

Okay, okay, before we even start, let me just say this: Yes, some of us still use landline phones! Landlines have their own unique set of benefits.

They ensure a secure connection in case of an emergency, provide superior sound quality, remain connected during an electrical outage, eliminate the need to recharge a battery, are unable to be hacked, let you place unlimited local calls, and aren’t going to drop your calls like a cell phone.

For those who work from home, a landline can be quite helpful.

As a small business owner who currently operates from home, I can tell you that a landline is awesome to have for taking clients’ calls.

Can You Use a Bluetooth Headset With a Landline Phone?

You can indeed use a Bluetooth headset with a landline phone. You will need to have a Bluetooth-enabled desk phone or adapter. Bluetooth headsets will also work with cordless landline phones.

Here’s the catch: You will need to have a Bluetooth-enabled desk phone or an adapter.

They’re easy enough to find, so that is going to be your first order of business if you want to use a landline.

The trick is finding a compatible phone with the correct 2.5mm port.

Otherwise, you will be manually picking up and ending calls and would therefore need to consider getting a Handset Lifter to take and end calls when you are away from the phone.

I know it sounds complicated right now, but using a Bluetooth headset with your landline phone isn’t all that complex.

Allow me a few minutes to walk you through using a Bluetooth headset.

You can use a Bluetooth headset with your landline phone.

These headsets are basically indispensable right now, especially with so many of us having shifted to work-from-home positions.

Your desk or home phone can handle a Bluetooth headset.

There are, of course, a few caveats. For example, you might need to buy an adapter. The phone and adapter simply plug into your landline or office telephone system. Your headset will get connected to this, then BAM! you are good to go.

Can I use Bluetooth headset with my cordless phone?

You can use your Bluetooth headset with a cordless phone.

A wired headset is often paired with a cordless phone with a 2.5mm or 3.5mm headset jack.

But with Bluetooth, you can either get a cordless phone that already has Bluetooth built into it or buy one of the wireless Bluetooth headsets that are available on the market for use with cordless phones.

How do I connect my headset to my landline phone?

Connecting your Bluetooth headset to a landline phone is a whole lot simpler than it sounds.

If you’re wondering “How do I set up Bluetooth on my home phone” or “How do I connect my wireless headphones to my office phone?”, don’t worry, it won’t take much effort.

If you own a Bluetooth-enabled desk phone or adapter, you simply plug the Bluetooth headset into your landline.

Your headset should come with instructions on how to do this.

If you buy a headset with multipoint pairing technology, you can fluidly switch between your landline phone and your smartphone.

Pretty nifty, right?

Are wireless landline headsets Bluetooth enabled?

The average wireless landline headset is not equipped with Bluetooth.

The vast majority of wireless headsets for that are made for landline phones function on DECT 6.0 technology, not on Bluetooth.

While this particular wireless frequency works just as well as Bluetooth, these DECT-enabled headsets operate on their own channel.

This helps them avoid interference from devices with WIFI or Bluetooth running on them.

Another thing to take note of is that, when you use a wireless headset on a corded landline phone, you cannot put callers on hold or dial out from the headset.

You will only be able to do that from your desk phone.

The benefits of using a Bluetooth headset are pretty clear.

You can get up and walk around while you work.

For those who work from home, this is a huge bonus.

You will also have a stronger, more secure connection than you would just by using your cellphone.

You will need to keep an eye on your headset’s battery life, sure, but most of them will give you around 12 hours of lifespan.

You will just need to charge them overnight.

At least you won’t have to worry about charging your phone when using a landline!

What’s on the market in terms of Bluetooth headsets for landline phones?

Here is where I get super nerdy and talk to you about the headsets out there that are Bluetooth-enabled for landline phones.

My first pick is the VXI V300. VXI might not sound familiar, but they’re actually owned by Jabra, who are known for making top-notch Bluetooth devices.

You can connect this puppy with your cordless phone, corded phone, computer, or cell phone.

Yeah, it connects to pretty much anything.

You can even use it for Skype! To customize your fit, you can switch between the neckband, ear hook, and headband.

The audio and mic adjustments are easy to figure out and use, although you’ll have to get used to the small buttons on the base.

The AT&T Marathon is another prime choice. It is compatible with cordless phones and is remarkably easy to set up.

Customizing the fit is simple since you can swap between the ear hook, headband, and neck band.

They can feel a tad bulky, but that’s mostly if you use the ear hook.

Finally, I recommend the VTech IS6200. This cordless headset is only compatible with specific cordless phones.

They are low profile and budget-friendly, offering about 350 feet of wireless range.

But just remember, it won’t connect with anything that isn’t a certain cordless phone model.

Closing Thoughts

Now that so many of us work from home, we rely on Bluetooth technology to get us through each workday. Finding the right Bluetooth capable headset to use with your landline desk phone or cordless home phone is a little tricky, but you can indeed pair them up and experience an abundant amount of range and battery life from these Bluetooth headsets. So get up, walk to the kitchen, and brew that cup of coffee while you conduct your Monday meeting or mid-week virtual huddle.

  1. I have Bluetooth enabled hearing aids which I can connect to my mobile, the difference in sound quality is unbelievable! I now need to purchase a new landline cordless phone, I was hoping to connect this to my hearing aids but while many list having Bluetooth, on reading the spec they do not. From reading the above it appears possible to purchase a Bluetooth sender that plugs into a phone but I cannot find any details. Gigaset S700 H Pro VoIP is the only phone that I can find listed that does the above but it is much more expensive than I can afford.
    Can you advise please?

    1. Gavin, Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I do not have any specific information other than I too understand the Gigaset is hearing aid compatible. I do not have anything from the manufacturer notes to confirm additional brands. However, in doing a search, I found this forum discussion options. I know there are a lot of variables with hearing aid brands and phone types but thought I would pass this link along in case it helps: https://forum.hearingtracker.com/t/landline-phone-bluetooth-connectivity/65037/9

  2. Do you have any recommendations for landline phones that are compatible with Bluetooth speakers? I’m having a very hard time finding any landline phones that say they are Bluetooth compatible.
