How do you close multiple windows on the iPad?
To close multiple windows on your iPad you’ll first need to swipe up from the bottom to the center of the screen. This will bring up a view of all of the app windows currently open on your iPad. From here, just swipe up on the app windows that you want to close.
As a long time Apple enthusiast and iPad user myself, I’ve spent a lot of time using my iPad both for getting work done and enjoying my favorite apps in my leisure time. The great thing about Apple products is that they’re designed to be incredibly user friendly.
Still, if you are new to Apple products or just the iPad in general, it can be confusing learning how to operate everything correctly.
Luckily for you, I’ve spent countless hours doing all the hard work of figuring everything out for you, so there’s no doubt that you’ll be able to close out multiple windows on your iPad in no time.
How Do App Windows On iPad Work?
If you have an iPad there’s no doubt that you will spend most of your time using the many apps available to you. Whether you need to get some work done using Microsoft Office, catch up on your favorite TV show on Netflix or pass the time playing your favorite game, there’s no limit to the things you can do with the apps on your iPad.
You start up your iPad for the first time, you will only have the basic apps that come standard on the device, so you’ll need to start by downloading all the apps that you want from the App Store.
You can do this by opening the App Store and searching for the app that you want in the search bar. You can also browse the most popular apps to see what other iOS users are using.
From here, just click on the app that you want to download and then click on “Get.” If you need to pay you’ll be prompted to authorize payment using Face ID, and then the app will begin to download and install on your iPad.
This process should only take a few seconds to a minute depending on the size of the app.
Once you’ve downloaded the apps that you want to use, you’ll need to open them up. You can do this by swiping left or right to find the app that you want to use and then simply clicking on it. This will open the app so that you can start using it.
If you are done using the current app and want to get back to the home screen to open another one, you just need to swipe on from the bottom of the screen. From here you can navigate to whichever other app you’d like to use.
However, when you do this, the app itself does not close. It simply put on pause in the background.
This is really helpful if you want to quickly switch back and forth between apps because you don’t lose any progress on apps that aren’t fully closed, which makes multitasking a lot easier and more fluid.
However, this brings us to our next questions. If you want to clear up the amount of opened app windows on your iPad, what do you need to do?
How To Close Multiple Windows On Your iPad?
As mentioned before, when you go back to the home screen from the app you are using, the app doesn’t completely close. It stays open in the background so that you don’t lose any progress and can switch back and forth between apps easily.
Closing apps and restarting them from scratch takes up a lot more computing and battery power than leaving them open, however, having too many apps open in the background can eventually slow your iPad down if it takes too much computing power.
While there is really no reason to close an app fully, unless it freezes and becomes unresponsive, you should occasionally go through and close out the apps that you don’t often use, just to clear up some memory and allow your iPad to run as smoothly as possible.
To close multiple apps on your iPad, you’ll again need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to the center. This will bring up the preview windows of all the apps that you currently have open.
From here you can swipe left or right to navigate to the apps that you want to close.
Once you’ve found the apps that you want to close, simply swipe up on the desired app windows to close them. You can close as many as you want, as long as there are app preview windows remaining on screen.
It is worth noting that the process will be a little different if you have an older version of the iPad that still has a home button.
While you still need to open up the app switcher where you can see all of the app preview windows, you may need to use the home button instead of simply swiping up on the screen to get there.
To do this, simply double click the home button and the same app preview windows will show up where you can close your app windows in the exact same way as before. Again, this is only for older iPad models that still have a home button.
Key Takeaways
- iPad apps don’t automatically close when you go back to the home screen. They stay open in the background to save progress and allow for easy multitasking.
- To close multiple apps at once, you need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open up the app switcher with all of the app preview windows. Then you can swipe up on the apps that you want to close to close them
- On older models of the iPad, you will need to double click the home button to bring up the app switcher, and then you can close apps just like with the newer models.
