Can JLab GO Air Connect To PS4 And PS5?
Sony is not exactly known for their native support of Bluetooth headphones and earbuds – like the JLab GO Air – on the PS4 or PS5, players do talk about how they have found ways to connect their favorite set to their console.
As a PlayStation owner who has an insane amount of Bluetooth headphones and earbuds at their disposal, I was curious as to whether I could somehow connect my JLabs to my console.
Let me forewarn you, it was gosh-darn frustrating, trying to find a workaround! (I probably should apologize to my neighbors for the shouting match I had with my PS5 that day.)
But, yes, there are ways to connect your JLab GO Air earbuds to your PS4 or PS5.
It will require some patience and, of course, a little bit of reading.
Can JLab GO Air Connect To PS4 And PS5?
The PS4 and PS5 do not offer native compatibility with Bluetooth. However, there are workarounds available that will help you connect your JLab GO Air. Using a dongle or Bluetooth adapter, you can connect and pair these two devices to enhance your gameplay and immersion.
The dilemma here is that both the PS4 and PS5 do not have the required Bluetooth profiles installed in them by Sony, and there is absolutely no way of installing them.
This means that you will have to invest in a dongle (which, yes, is one of the silliest words ever) or a Bluetooth adapter so that you can pair your JLab GO Air to your console.
The truth of the matter is that gaming consoles like PlayStation just do not offer native support to Bluetooth earbuds and headphones.
Sure, you can use the workarounds to connect them, but native compatibility would be a huge asset to gamers since that could really help us customize our gameplay experiences.
Connecting JLab GO Air to the PS4
You can not connect directly connect your JLab earbuds to the PS4 (or PS5 for that matter) using the console’s Bluetooth settings.
However, getting a Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter (BWT for short) can help you connect your earbuds to your console.
And it is less expensive than you might think.
A BWT will come with a USB cord that plugs into the PS4’s controller slot, and that lets you pair your JLab GO Air to the PS4.
BWTs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and many manufacturers put them for sale on sites like Amazon.
BWTs work with an array of different Bluetooth enabled earbuds and headphones, so if you have another set of JLabs, a BWT could work with those too.
How to Connect JLab GO Air to the PS4
Once you have the BWT or dongle, you will just need to follow a few simple steps to set it up:
- Plug your BWT’s USB cord into the USB slot on the PS4.
- Press each of the buttons on your JLab GO Air at the same time to put them into pairing mode.
- Go into the console’s settings, then find and choose the JLab earbuds option located in the Bluetooth menu.
This indeed makes it super easy to immerse yourself in a game with high-quality sound – without the mess of cords dangling from your ears!
Connecting JLab GO Air to the PS5
Of course, with the BWT/dongle, you can connect your JLab GO Air to your shiny new PS5 too.
Would it have been great if Sony had listened to consumers and made native Bluetooth compatible with wireless earbuds and headphones not made by Sony? Um, yeah.
But at least we have our workaround here.
Now, there are adapters out there that will plug into your TV, but they might not actually work with the audio on your PS5 – and it definitely will not work when it comes to in-game chat.
You will at least be able to receive audio from the PS5 into your earbuds though.
How to Connect JLab GO Air to the PS5
Again, you’re pretty much going to follow the same steps as you would for the PS4. Just:
- Plug your BWT’s USB cord into the PS5’s USB slot.
- Press each of the buttons on your JLab GO Air at the same time to put them into pairing mode.
- Go into the PS5’s settings, then find and choose the JLab earbuds option located in the Bluetooth menu.
It really is that simple.
Connect JLab GO Air to Your PS4 or PS5 via a Bluetooth Wireless Transmitter
Using the BWT (or, as you’ve heard me lament saying, dongle) is easy since it just plugs into your audio or USB slot.
Essentially, this turns any device you plug it into, into a Bluetooth transmitter.
Not only are they available for video game consoles, but you can find them for car stereos (in fact, I just bought one for my 2004 Pontiac Vibe and love it), computer, or home stereo.
The wireless headsets out there that are for native use with PS4 and PS5 are exclusively designed for gaming, which makes them not quite so versatile as your JLab GO Air earbuds.
The way to know if your headset is able to pair with the console without using a BWT is to go into your Bluetooth settings and look for the name of your headset.
After putting your headset into pairing mode, you’ll need to:
- Go into your console’s Settings menu.
- Go to Devices.
- Select Bluetooth Devices and browse for your headset’s name.
If you don’t see it listed there, the device isn’t supported.
Why won’t the PS4 or PS5 support Bluetooth earbuds or headphones?
It is hard to say exactly why Sony chose not to make native Bluetooth compatibility with a variety of non-gaming earbuds and headsets a thing on the PS5 when it was released in November of 2020.
It wouldn’t be unfair to speculate that this has something to do with production costs and profits for Sony.
Will Sony ever include the proper Bluetooth drivers?
Time will tell, but that won’t be any time soon, and who knows where Bluetooth technology will be in 5-10 years.
Closing Thoughts
If you want to use your JLab GO Air on your PS4 or PS5, you will have to spend around $50 USD for a BWT.
For avid gamers, the cost is probably worth it.
But if you are simply a casual gamer, I’d wager that this really isn’t going to be all that appealing of an option to you.
