Can Multiple Accounts Use PlayStation Plus?
If you are into gaming and you own a PlayStation, one of the questions that will come into your mind includes, can multiple accounts use PlayStation plus?
We will break down this question and answer it so that you will understand.
Can Multiple Accounts Use PlayStation Plus?
Playstation family allows you to create multiple subaccounts within your single subscription, and those subaccounts can also access Playstation Plus. However, multiple separate accounts cannot use teh same Plus Account.
The short answer to the question is no, but the issue is related to the number of consoles in your house.
If you have more than one console, it won’t work with just one PS+ account. But if you have only one console, it would be fine for an additional account on that same console.
This will allow you to access all the games across both consoles while only paying once for PS+.
As you may have guessed, the long answer to the question is yes.
You can connect multiple accounts on a single console, no need for two separate PS+ accounts at all.
But it will be a little tricky to do this if you have more than one console in your house.
Here are the steps:
Connect a single profile and download the PLAYSTATION PLUS app from your PS4 or PS5 (if not already on the system).
Sign in to your new account through this app.
Once you have done this, sign out of your original account and sign in to the second account through the PS4.
You will now see 2 PlayStation plus accounts connected on your PS4, but if you go to the PS+ tab in the PlayStation Store, you will see that you are subscribed twice.
At least, that is what we have heard from multiple sources.
But don’t worry, both of your accounts will work just fine.
Although a few more steps are involved, this makes it possible for you to connect multiple accounts on your PS4.
It’s up to you if it is worth the extra time and effort when you can buy another subscription for your second account.
Is it Possible to Share PlayStation Plus?
We have run across a few articles claiming that you can share your subscription; this is only technically possible if you have multiple consoles in your house, but we don’t know of any instance where this happened.
There is also no indication that Sony allows this to happen.
We should note that some reports on the internet mention this as a possibility, but we don’t know of any official confirmation from Sony yet.
The fact that they don’t allow you to add more than one account on a single console should give you a hint that this is not going to happen.
Is it Possible to Cancel?
This is one of the most common questions we receive. Can you cancel your PlayStation Plus subscription?
The answer is no; you can’t cancel. You can only resubscribe.
So, if you cancel, you will have to wait until the end of your current subscription and then start a new one.
You can still use both accounts as long as you are signed into one actively and as long as you don’t change anything in your profile settings.
What About Minis and Games?
What about the minis that come through PlayStation plus? Can I access them with other accounts?
The short answer is yes, but not all of them. You can still play your minis on the account you are signed into.
You can access and play other minis that are not in your library, whether it be from a different account or even from a different console.
Your games are like the bigger titles that come through PS+.
If you have multiple accounts, all of your games will be accessible if they aren’t specifically marked as “Only in My Library” or “Reserved for My Library.” Sony will also let you download titles that are “Reserved in My Library or Only in My Library” on your shared account, with one exception.
You may recall there was information about “Reserved for My Library” games, which means that the game has been reserved for your unique user ID and not for anyone else.
It is stated that these games can only be played on one account, so you will have to choose which account to play it on.
Can Multiple Sub-Accounts Use PS+?
In this section, we are going to talk about sub-accounts.
Many people have multiple sub-accounts on the same device, and they also want to know whether they can connect these accounts to PlayStation plus.
The answer is yes. You need to follow a few steps to make this happen.
The first step is pretty easy; all you have to do is sign up for PlayStation+ using your main profile.
Once this is done, go to the PlayStation store and add a sub-account (you will need to do this on your main profile).
Once you have added the sub-account, it’s time to link them both.
Now comes the tricky part. You will know what we are talking about here for anyone who has multiple accounts on a single console.
The first thing you need to do is download all of your purchased games into the library of your main account.
Once you have done this, go to your sub-account and download any games that you want.
This is where the tricky part comes in.
Whether or not you are adding a sub-account or not, once you have downloaded any title from your library onto your sub-account, that title will be marked as “Only in My Library” on both accounts.
It will also show up with the option to download the game from a different library if you click “Reserve for My Library.”
This will mean that the game will only be playable on one account.
We don’t know if this will prevent you from redeeming the game through your primary account or if you would have to redeem it first, then delete the game to play it on your secondary account.
At this point, we aren’t sure what you need to do to get the game working together.
Honestly, we don’t know if it would be worth the extra effort. It seems like a lot of work to play one game on two accounts.
What About PS Now and VR?
You might be wondering about games that you have in your library through PS Now or PlayStation VR games.
Are they shared, or do you have to choose one? The answer is no, you don’t have to choose, and you can use both accounts with all games installed in your library.
Final Thoughts
We hope you find this article helpful in answering the question, can multiple accounts use PlayStation plus? It’s a simple process, but there are likely some things that you will have to set up to make it work.
If you are already on the PS4, you should be able to do this right away.
If not, we recommend that you wait until Sony rolls out the update to allow multiple accounts before trying.
So far, Sony has not announced this update yet, so it may take some time before it goes live.
