What Bluetooth Speakers Work With PS4?

What Bluetooth Speakers Work With PS4?

Sony doesn’t allow wireless connection of Bluetooth speakers to PS4. Granted, you need a speaker that connects to the PS4 through wired connections. If you do not want to use wires, you still have other options like connecting your Bluetooth speaker to your TV and then playing the audio from there.

There are so many speaker options to choose from. Which speaker should you go for?

What Bluetooth Speakers Work With PS4?

The Bluetooth speakers that work with PS4 include Anker Soundcore 2 Braven BRV-Mini, OontZ Angle 3 (3rd Generation), COMISO Bluetooth Speaker, and Bose SoundLink Color II. These are speakers that can connect to your PS4 through an optical audio cable, an audio extractor, an auxiliary cable, or connecting to the TV through Bluetooth.

There are many other speakers we recommend, including JBL Flip 5, Sony SRS-XB43, FUGOO Tough XL, Sonos Move, JBL Boombox 2, Bose SoundLink Revolve, JBL Charge 4, and Ultimate Ears Boom 3. There are several ways of connecting these speakers to the PS4 as follows.

Can You Connect the Bluetooth Speaker Wirelessly to PS4?

No. Unfortunately, PS4 doesn’t have a Bluetooth adapter, so it doesn’t connect to Bluetooth speakers. If you need to connect to the speaker wirelessly, you can do so through your TV.

If you have a Bluetooth-enabled TV, you can easily connect it to your Bluetooth speaker, and it will play the sound through the HDMI cable that connects it with the PS4. You need to power on your Bluetooth speaker and pair it to the TV to get started.

When the TV pairs to the speaker, you are good to start using it. To connect the TV to the speaker, you need to open the sound settings on your TV – you can do that using your remote. From the list of options, select the speakers list and click on Bluetooth. Once the speaker appears on the list, click on it, and you will have sent the audio to the speaker.

Different smart TVs have different settings options. For others, such as Sony, you need to select the Bluetooth speaker option from “Network and Accessories” under the Settings menu. From there, choose Bluetooth settings and turn on Bluetooth.

A list of available Bluetooth devices will appear and from it you can select your speaker. If you cannot see the speaker, click the option “Add Accessories” and the speaker will appear.

Check with your TV manual on how to connect a Bluetooth device and do so. Besides connecting the speaker to your TV, there is no other way to connect the speaker wirelessly. As such, you need to ensure that you have a smart TV that allows Bluetooth connections.

Can You Connect The Bluetooth Speaker Through an Optical Audio Cable?

Yes. If you do not have a smart TV, and you still need to connect the Bluetooth speaker, you can do so through an optical audio cable.

The cables sport a jack in the middle and a hexagonal plastic opening. You can use these cables to connect your Bluetooth speaker, but note that PS4 slim doesn’t have the audio output port. For those with PS4 Slim, check the other options below.

To connect the speaker, plug one end of the cable into your speaker. The audio cable port is at the back of your speaker. For a speaker that doesn’t have the port, you can get an optical adapter.

The other end of the cable should go into the optical port of the PS4, which is to the far left of the PS4. This connection should instantly play the PS4 audio through the Bluetooth speakers.

If the audio doesn’t play through the speakers, check the speaker volume or adjust the cable connection.

Can You Connect a Bluetooth Speaker to PS4 Through an Audio Extractor?

Yes. An audio extractor comes in handy when you do not have a smart TV. These extractors come with two HDMI ports each on separate sides of the cables. They also have audio out ports for RCA audio cables, optical, or 3.5mm stereo.

The extractor you buy should match the audio output of your speaker. Note that, the audio extractor might interfere with the quality of the audio you get from your speakers. You also need an audio cable that connects to the extractor’s audio output and the audio input of your speakers.

Besides, an extra HDMI cable also comes in handy when you need to connect the audio extractor to the TV. To start playing the audio, plug the audio extractor to the PS4 using the first HDMI cable. The second HDMI cable connects to the TV. From there, plug your audio extractor to the speaker through the audio cable.

Once all the cables connect to their respective ports, you should be able to hear the sound from the PS4 through the speakers. If that doesn’t happen, adjust the volume of the speakers or check the connections.

Can You Connect a Bluetooth Speaker to PS4 Through an Auxiliary Cable?

Yes. You can use a 3.5mm audio cable to easily wire the speaker to the PS4. Most of the speakers we recommend have a headphone jack that you can use to wire it to the PS4. If your speaker doesn’t have a jack, then it is not ideal for use with PS4.

To start playing the audio, plug in the jack into the speaker on one end and the other end into the PS4.

Once you connect the speaker using an audio jack, open the settings of your PS4 and scroll down to devices then audio devices. First select “Output device” and then the “Headset connected to the Controller.”

The option might already be selected on your device. From there, select the option “Output to Headphones” and then select “All Audio.” From there, your speaker will be ready to play. Turn on the speakers and start a game.

If the speaker still doesn’t play, check the connections and the settings again to ensure everything is set.

What Should You Consider When Shopping for a Bluetooth Speaker for PS4?

Consider that the speaker has an aux output port, audio cable port, or a HDMI port. If the speaker doesn’t have any of these (although it is hard to have a speaker without either), ensure you have a smart TV that connects to the speaker wirelessly.

Besides the features above, you need to ensure that you get a speaker that meets your needs. The speaker should be loud enough, portable, and offer high-quality audio even at high volumes.

These speakers come in a wide range of prices from the cheapest at $15 to the most expensive at more than $3,000. When shopping, go for a speaker that meets your needs and your budget.

Do You Need a Bluetooth USB Adapter to Connect Bluetooth Speakers to PS4?

If you still need to connect the speakers wirelessly, and you do not have a smart TV, you can use a Bluetooth USB adapter. The adapter is in the form of the USB device and plugs into the USB port of your PS4. Most of these adapters automatically connect to any audio device that has Bluetooth.

Some adapters come as simple USB devices while others even have a screen that allows you to see the music playing among other details. When shopping for an adapter, check the Bluetooth version so that you can get a good range and good speed. The adapter should offer Bluetooth version 4.0 or later.

Most are like the Bluetooth adapter of your mouse – there is no complex connection needed.

Once you have the adapter, connect it to the USB port on your PS4 and power the Bluetooth speaker. The PS4 will automatically send the audio to the Bluetooth speaker. You do not need any complex setup.

Closing Thoughts

If you want to wirelessly connect your Bluetooth speaker to your PS4, you can use a Bluetooth adapter or connect the speaker to your smart TV. If these two options are not ideal for you, you can go for the good old cables.
